Description
Russian Radials Limited is a CAA Approved organisation maintaining and repairing Soviet-era piston aircraft and their engines. Founded in 2005 the company is now acknowledged as the pre-eminent facility for the maintenance, overhaul and repair of these engine types. The company is based near Stratford-on-Avon, adjacent to its own runway, and is now expanding in order to accommodate a unique aircraft restoration project.
The project is to restore one of several complete airframes and engines to full flight status and is estimated to take 5 years. Once completed the aircraft will be the sole airworthy example.
We are seeking to recruit a part time Solidworks Design Engineer to join as a key member of the project team. The position will ideally suit a recently retired Aerospace CAD Design Engineer who has experience of and understands the compliance and regulatory requirements of the industry.
We have a comprehensive technical library for the type but we do not possess the complete set of original blueprints, so a large part of the CAD work required will involve reverse engineering. Whilst some drawings will be straightforward replication others will require some design work and so knowledge of aerospace materials and engineering methods is highly desirable. The successful candidate will also need to be self-motivated and prepared and able to manage the CAD function of the Company within a regulated environment.
You will not be a desk-bound manager, you will be an experienced, hands-on and practical individual with a passion for attention to detail and professionalism. Space inside and access to a 1940s warplane is limited and there will be occasions when you will need to be able to get into and work inside tight spaces.
The hours will be flexible and we anticipate initially 1-2 days per week on a regular basis. This may change once we start the project later this year, so flexibility will be desirable.
Interest in historic aviation, especially warbird (but vintage/classic cars would be close)
Knowledge of aerospace materials and manufacturing techniques (ideally warbird)
High Level of Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD modelling
Ability to reverse engineer parts from OE components
Good level of practical hands-on design skills
