When buying SOLIDWORKS, you'll need to decide if you want to rent the software or purchase an indefinite expiry or perpetual license. Typically rental licencing becomes less cost-effective than perpetual after three years.

It should be noted that you can mix and match license models, so perhaps perpetual licensing is best for your sustained business requirements but when there will be an increase in output needed, rental licensing can meet a short term demand.

What services and level of support do SOLIDWORKS Rental licence customers get access to?
SOLIDWORKS Rental Licence customers have access to the same benefits and services as SOLIDWORKS subscription customers: Technical support, knowledge base, software upgrades and enhancements, customer portal and My.SOLIDWORKS. But please note: these benefits are applicable only for the length of the rental period.
Is rental licencing available to both new and existing SOLIDWORKS customers?
Yes. Renting SOLIDWORKS licences is available to all new and existing SOLIDWORKS customers.
Are rental licences transferable between machines?
Yes. The transfer process is similar to Perpetual assets.
Are SOLIDWORKS rental licenced products available on SNL (SOLIDWORKS Network Licence)?
Yes, many SOLIDWORKS products can be rented as a network version, for example CAD and Simulation (FEA). Please contact us for pricing or product enquiries.
What are the rental period options?
SOLIDWORKS rental products are available in 3 month or 12 month periods.

The 12 month rental will auto-renew. This can be cancelled at the end of a 12 month term but requires a minimum of 1 weeks notice.
Can you use a perpetual SOLIDWORKS licences with rental SOLIDWORKS products?
Yes. You can combine a rental SOLIDWORKS product with a perpetual license and vice-versa. For example you may choose to use a perpetual license of SOLIDWORKS CAD along with a rental license of SOLIDWORKS Simulation.
Can you convert a rental licence to a perpetual licence?
No. Rental licences only grant access to SOLIDWORKS software for a specific period of time and they cannot be converted to a perpetual licence.
