FutureNova is looking for an expert Solidworks CAD Designer who has a product design or engineering qualification at degree/HND level. The person would have at least 3 years experience in Solidworks Modelling and skills in medical plastic design.
This is an opportunity for the person to become a team leader and manage other product designers. The person must have proven organisational/project management skills to take an initial design right through to the mass production. A good knowledge the latest injection mould techniques would be an advantage.
The person must have high quality line drawing and sketching skills, this would include product concept/modelling skills and be a great communicator.
A successful applicant may be required to visit healthcare sites in UK , Europe and the USA to collaborate with clinicians on design modifications.
We are building products that are designed to work with the Apple iPad the iPhone 6 and iWatch. The quality of design is paramount and these products will directly improve healthcare.
We always ask for references and expect our staff to have a clean driving licence and their own car. It is likely that you will be CRB checked as you may be working at children hospital locations in the UK.
We like self-starters who are determined to work at the highest level and capable of working under pressure. The person needs to be open minded and a lateral thinker, solving design problems would be second nature to them.
An ideal candidate would have passed formal Solidworks 2014 design courses and have advanced experience of plastics modelling and injection mould design. (Candidates will be tested by experts in Solidworks to verify their skills)
The successful candidate may be involved in collaboration with Apple and some of the most advanced teaching hospitals in the UK and USA. This could include working in a live operating theatre environment and may not suite a person who faints at the site of blood.
This may suite a person who wants to step up to be a team leader or someone who has led a small design team. Suitable management training will be provided to enhance the team leader skills. It is essential that the candidate has advanced Solidworks CAD experience with at least 80% of their time focussed on design.
The candidate would be based in The MedBIC Innovation Centre in Chelmsford Essex. We need people who are within a 40 minute commute distance to this office. They would manage a small team of Junior Designers and Interns and occasionally visit our Kent office to work with the sales team.
Day to day activities would include creating 3D rendered models. Working with 3D prototype print contractors, liaising with electronics designers and material scientists. This would include factory visits to injection mould toolmakers and following the product cycle through to mass production. This may include management of contractors and rapidly modifying designs when required. Useful skills would be designing products that need to pass an IP67 Test or Autoclaving. Particular skills in mould flow analysis would be helpful.
The right candidate would have good knowledge of design for production and be able to show a portfolio of products that were created with their direct design input. We suggest your bring your portfolio along to the first interview if you are short-listed.
