SOLIDWORKS Industries

Why Design Moulds with SOLIDWORKS?
Reduce Risk, Accelerate Response & Increase Efficiency
Increasingly demanding customers and global competition is forcing mould tool designers to continually improve their processes to keep up.

SOLIDWORKS provides an integrated range of products designed to tackle some of the most common challenges when creating plastic injection-moulded parts such as: being able to adapt to customer design changes quickly, reducing risk of poor quality parts, enabling better communication and improving delivery times.
Validate Designs
SOLIDWORKS tools empower you to quickly check undercuts, draft and wall thickness and test the strength of your design by running stress analysis.

With SOLIDWORKS it's simple to make changes to mould geometry regardless of how complex the surfaces, drafts and fillets are.
Edit Imports
SOLIDWORKS is able to translate CAD data from over 30 different data formats, facilitating easy transfer of CAD models between customers and suppliers.

Once imported into SOLIDWORKS models can be converted and manipulated to create functional mould designs.
Seamless Growth
One of the largest advantages of SOLIDWORKS is that it provides a complete suite of integrated products. The design, simulation and manufacturing products are all linked and share a familiar interface, so as your requirements expand it's easy to develop your software capabilities too, without the pains of switching to new software.
SOLIDWORKS Tools and Solutions for Mould Design
SOLIDWORKS Professional
SOLIDWORKS Professional offers robust 3D CAD modelling, data management, productivity tools and more. Associative links between parts, assemblies, drawings ensure that should an update be made it is quickly filtered through to remove design errors prior to manufacture.
SOLIDWORKS CAM
Once the design has be validated, SOLIDWORKS CAM allows for CAM prototypes to be generated directly from the original CAD model. Following design changes the CAM programming can be updated easily as it remains linked to the model, saving time and expensive rework.
SOLIDWORKS Plastics
SOLIDWORKS Plastics shows how melted plastic will flow during the injection moulding process to predict manufacturing-related defects on parts and moulds. Develop better parts and avoid the risk of part failure by evaluating manufacturability during the design process.
Mould Tools
SOLIDWORKS mould design features a range of analysis tools for draft angle, undercuts and thickness. The core and cavity generation is driven automatically from the base model, these remain linked to ensure that any changes made filter through to the moulds as required. A series of International Standards are built into the software to ensure moulds are fit for use.
Surfacing
The range of surfacing tools SOLIDWORKS has to offer are ideally suited for mould design and many items can be automatically generated. You can create shut-off surfaces, parting surfaces, draft faces, splits faces and more to get the mould design that you are after.
Draft Analysis
Designers can use the Draft Analysis tool to check the correct application of draft to the faces of their part. With draft analysis, you can verify draft angles, examine angle changes within a face, as well as locate parting lines, injection, and ejection surfaces in parts.
