Feature Freeze on Standard parts

Friday December 7, 2012 at 9:59am

Each day we wait for Assembly files to open across the network. These assemblies may contain a number of standard parts that will never change. So, why not use the "Feature Freeze" tool to lock features from rebuilding and cut down on opening times.

Introduced in SOLIDWORKS 2012 the Feature Freeze tool allows you to lock all features from being rebuilt. The tool is turned on via a System options>General>Enable Feature Bar.

Once enabled, a orange bar will appear at the top of the part feature tree.
When you next open a standard part drag the orange bar to the bottom of the feature tree to reduce rebuild of feature time to zero.

The Feature Freeze works on parts with configurations too, once rebuilt the swapping between the configs will be super fast.

Enjoy,

Lloyd
