SolidWorks Simulation Professional - Sub Modelling

Thursday June 6, 2013 at 9:28am
A new feature has been added to SOLIDWORKS Simulation Professional and Premium 2013. Submodelling allows you to improve the results at local regions of large models without having to rerun the analysis for the whole model. Refining the mesh for selected bodies or parts only and rerunning the analysis for the submodel saves a huge amount of computation and setup time.

After you set up and run a static or nonlinear static study for multibody parts or large assemblies with a relatively coarse mesh, you can define a group of bodies as a submodel. Refine the mesh of the bodies inside the submodel and rerun the study to improve results for the submodel only, without recalculating results for the rest of the model.

Here is an example of a larger “Master” model that can be used to define loads, restraints and a basic course mesh.

A Submodel study can then be created to target a specific body or part in the master model. The mesh can be much more refined as it is only impacting a much smaller part of the original model.
