DraftSight Install Guides & DraftSight Tutorials

How do I learn DraftSight?
Install DraftSight, Watch Tutorials, Attend Training
Once you have purchased DraftSight, or started your free DraftSight trial, you may be wondering where to begin?

The first step is to install DraftSight, watch our installation guide and download the latest installation files. Then get up to speed by watching our DraftSight tutorials below to learn about the essential techniques.

To get the best start with DraftSight then we suggest you consider our Draftsight Training Course. Click the link to view the schedule and find out more about what's covered during our course.
How can I learn the DraftSight interface?

If you need to understand what makes up the DraftSight interface or refamiliarize yourself with the layout this video will guide you through each area. In this tutorial we introduce the main areas of the interface the graphics space, the command window, ribbons and task panes. We'll also share our best practice advice for how you can tweak these areas to give you the best setup to get started.

How can I navigate around DraftSight?

If you are not sure how to properly navigate around your 2D CAD or would like a refresher, watch this video.

This video will also demonstrate how to make use of layers within Draftsight. Layers provide organisation to drawings, allowing you to overlap areas while maintaining control over each section, they are key to properly managing complex drawings.

How do I start drawing?

This video will give you an introduction to 2D drawing tools and options to help you get started. During this tutorial we will show how to access drawing tools using written commands and where to find tools on the ribbon menu. We'll also show some of the key tools for selecting, modifying and copying sections of your drawing.

How can I use blocks in DraftSight?

In DraftSight blocks are used to help quickly reuse content, creating a library of your own blocks can save huge amounts of time if you regularly work on similar projects. This video will show you how to insert blocks into your drawings, how to control settings such as the rotation and scale and how to create and save blocks from your own drawings.

Converting 2D to 3D
Working with DraftSight and SOLIDWORKS
3D CAD design offers a wide range of benefits over 2D CAD, to name just a few:
  • The models are easier to understand, which leads to faster approvals and helps potential customers to get a feel for a design.
  • Design changes are simple and updates automatically propagate to your documentation including drawings and BoMs.
  • Designs can be taken straight through to manufacturing, whether that's setting tool paths for CAM or programming a 3D printer.
  • It's easy to view every component works together before having to manufacture anything. Designs can be validated and optimized using virtual testing.
That said, there are still certain situations where 2D CAD is more efficient and we have customers that make good use of 2D and 3D together.

If you need to migrate some or all of your data into 3D to take advantage of some of the benefits mentioned above then SOLIDWORKS has tools to make this process simple. In this video we outline some typical conversion processes.
